Micro-teaching is an important part of B.Ed. program. Without this, your B.Ed. degree will be incomplete. So, it is important to learn micro-teaching properly to get better grades. The first thing we do before we practice micro-teaching is that make a micro lesson plan for that particular subject. So, in this post, I will be teaching you how to make a micro-teaching lesson plan for science on the skill of demonstration. This sample micro lesson plan for the skill of demonstration in science will lead you to make lesson plans for any subject on this skill.

How to Make a Science Micro Lesson Plan for The Skill of Demonstration?

Among the 10 major skills of micro-teaching practiced in teacher training institutions, the skill of demonstration is one of them. This is mandatory to learn micro-teaching in your B.Ed. program. Because it reduces normal classroom teaching by scaled-down teaching. So, micro-teaching teaching is practiced in all B.Ed. colleges or teacher training institutions.

Before you start making a micro lesson plan on this skill of demonstration, you have to understand the meaning, objectives, and importance of this skill. I have already posted an article explaining the objectives and components of the skill of demonstration.

Before you start making a lesson plan on any skills of micro-teaching, there is one more thing you should understand properly. This is about its components. In this case, you should understand each component of the demonstration to use them in the proper place of your science micro plan for demonstration.

Components of the Skill of Demonstration:

There are seven components of this skill. These are –

  1. Relevant to Topic, Concept, Idea, and Teaching Point
  2. Creation of Appropriate Situation
  3. Adequacy of Manipulative Skills
  4. Appropriateness
  5. Pupils Involvement
  6. Generalization
  7. Approach

I suggest you understand all of them properly to avoid making mistakes in using them. In the above link, you will get an explanation for these components. You have to use all of these components in your micro lesson plan of skill demonstration in science.

Steps for Making a Science Skill of Demonstration Micro Lesson Plan

The steps or procedure of making a micro lesson plan for micro-teaching is different for different skills. Here we are going to learn the procedure to make a micro plan for demonstration. I am choosing the science subject for this.

The steps are pretty simple. But to implement them you have to be focused. Especially using the components of the skill. Your components should match the teacher’s and pupils’ activities. You can take help from your model Science Skill of Demonstration Micro-Teaching lesson plan.

The steps are very simple. But the important part is how you visualize or explain your topic through these skills. You have to explain it theoretically in your lesson plan as well as in your presentation.

  • Write identification of data (This has to be written for any skills)
  • Write teaching point (Your topic)
  • Mention all teaching aids. (general as well as specific)
  • Make the table for teacher activities, pupils’ activities, and components.

Science Micro Lesson Plan on Sedimentation and Decantation for Demonstration Skill

Identification of Data:

Subject: General Science
Topic: Sedimentation and Decantation
Class: VI
Teacher: …..
Time: 7 min
Date: ……

Teaching Point:

“Solids which are heavier and insoluble in water, then the other components can be separated by sedimentation followed by decantation.”

Teaching Aids:

  • General Aids: Chalk, Blackboard, Duster, Pointer
  • Special Aids: Sand, salt, water, stick, three glass.

The teacher will welcome the pupils and place the teaching aids respectively. She will then tell pupils, “Today I will show you a very interesting demonstration to make understanding better.”

Showing the glass filled with water and sand, the teacher will ask the pupils, “If I mixed this sand with water, will I be able to separate these?”
The pupils will respond and be attentive.

The pupils may give mixed answers:

“Yes, these are separable.” “No, these are not separable.”
Creation of an approach situation.

He / She will say – “Let us see then what happens.” And mix the sand with water with the help of a spoon and ask the pupil after pausing for a while:

1. What do you observe?
2. Why did these settle down in the glass?
3. What this process is called?

Then he/she will invite a student to come and help him/her. She will ask the pupils to mix salt in water with the help of a spoon. She will ask other pupils to observe minutely.
He / She will then ask the pupils:

What do you observe?     Will these salts settle down?

Then he/she will gently pour out the clear water from the first beaker by tickling over a stick without disturbing the sand that settled down in the glass. He/she will do the same for the second beaker and then ask them:

1. What do you observe now?
2. What this process of separation is called?
3. Why can’t we separate salt from the mixer of water and salt by decantation?
4. Can you find a relationship between the two components of the mixture?

After the relationship being generalized by the pupils, the teacher will reorganize it and write I on the blackboard as follows:

“Solids which are heavier and insoluble in water, then the other components can be separated by sedimentation followed by decantation.”
The pupils will note down the generalized point from the blackboard.

I hope you will get the idea to make a micro-teaching lesson plan of demonstration for B.Ed. micro-teaching. I have given you the pictures of the above science micro lesson plan for the skill of demonstration on the topic Sedimentation and Decantation. We have also published a lesson plan for demonstration skills in maths.

Please note that the format might be slightly different from yours. This format is based on the format provided in B.Ed. colleges which are under Dibrugarh University. But If you are pursuing B.Ed. in Assam then it will be perfect for you. I aim to give you a basic idea of how to make a proper micro-teaching lesson plan for the skill of demonstration in Science through this post.
